If you have both fallout 3 and new Vegas you should check out the tale of two wastelands mod which let's you play both fallout 3 and new Vegas with the same character, and you can travel between the maps and complete all the dlc in each game and yeah.
Project Nevada, a world without pain, and more traits/perks are the mods I normally start off with when playing new Vegas.
